Does my child need previous experience?

No previous experience is necessary to join our classes, we accept students of all levels of experience and have classes that allow all students to shine. It is our aim to create an environment for all our students that will encourage and reward effort and achievement. It is important to us to create a less internally competitive environment by rewarding students for their personal achievements and artistry. The focus remains firmly on making dance education fun and enjoyable in a supportive space designed to enhance self-esteem (we also like to keep things hassle free for parents). Dance classes will offer a chance for children to make new friends and learn social skills!

How many students are in each class?

At Cheer & Dance Intensity we believe it is important that each individual student gets as much time and attention as possible in our classes. It is because of this that we aim for a 1:10 ratio in our classes. This means that for every one teacher/assistant in the class there will be no more than 10 students. Parents are paying for their child to actively participate and learn, not sit and wait for their turn or get lost in a massive class. This ratio can sometimes be different due to staff sick leave but it is also often less students per teacher!

What is the intensive dance program?

The Intensive Dance program is part-time after school training designed to develop young, dedicated and talented dancers to a pre-professional level through specialised and methodical training. Opportunities throughout the program are provided for the students to undertake practical application of this training through performance work, auditions, competitions and external workshops. Students enjoy the benefit of working in a focussed environment where teachers guide and assist them in a holistic and dedicated manner. The program emphasises correct technique, placement, dynamics and performance quality. Designed for students aged 12+ it focuses on building strong technical dancers with a flare for performance. This program includes core classes in Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Tap & Musical Theatre with guest teachers often utilised throughout the year for lessons in ballroom, yoga and pilates. We found that so much time was being wasted each week on the same warm ups and corner work when each style was run as an individual class so we combined them to maximise the amount of time the students spent dancing. Students in this class also have the ability to compete at local, state and national competitions (Private lessons required), complete their CSTD dance exams and also their Certificate II & III in dance. Training is conducted over two nights during the week, which allow for rest days in between to allow the body to repair itself to minimise injury and avoid burnout.

What are the cost of the classes?

2024 Registration Fee: $40 per student

45 minute classes: $120 per term

30 minute classes: $80 per term

Intensive Dance Program: $400 per term

Intensive Dance Program (exam training): $300 per term

Extra costs you MAY encounter through the year:

- Shoes: Parents are required to purchase the appropriate footwear for their child for Jazz, Ballet & Tap classes, we can assist parents in finding the right style for their child's class and also have some second hand options. Shoes are not required to start classes but once a child has decided to continue with the class they will need shoes.

- Uniforms: We have CDI uniforms that may be purchased, these are completely optional. As long as your child attends class in appropriate dance wear we do not mind.

- Exam fees: Your child MAY be invited to participate in exams, this is a fantastic opportunity however the exams do have a fee to sit them and the student is required to wear a specific uniform.

- Costumes: All our students are invited to participate in our end of year concert, it is a great opportunity to show off what they have learnt on the stage in front of family and friends. It is an optional event but almost all students do participate. To perform your child will need to purchase the costume for their class $100-120, this is invoiced in term three. All spectators are also required to purchase tickets.

We dislike hidden costs as much as everyone so will always be as upfront we can about any costs and requirements
